5 tips on how to network at an online event
You are planning to network at an online event? Prepare for success with these 5 tips!
1. Have a goal
Make attending the conference worth your while. Be thorough in identifying your goals. What is your networking goal for instance? But also, what knowledge do you want to acquire by attending the event? Keep your goals in mind at all times.
2. Go over the participant’s list
Have a look at the list and identify the participants you want to get in contact with. You can do this with simple Google/LinkedIn research. It should not only give you information on their professional background but also give you ideas on potential icebreakers.
3. Prepare an introduction
Keep it short and simple. An introduction is just that: an introduction. This is not the moment to share a lengthy sales pitch or detail your resume. You want to share the essentials while enticing other participants to get to know you more.
4. Block out your time
Make sure you have enough time before, during, and after the event. Be sure that you have eliminated any distractions. Attending an event while working on other things is the best way to miss out on opportunities to engage with the speaker and/or the participants.
5. Check the techs
A good internet connection is a basic requirement. But it is also useful to check if you are comfortable with the software that will be used. If you are planning on using a virtual background or on recording the meeting, do you know how to do so?
