3 Reasons why I hired a coach
As a coach myself, it might seem contradictory I signed up for coaching. It is not just about learning a new skill but also understanding the journey my own coachees go through.
The idea of creating an online course is not a new one. I even started doing research, got overwhelmed by everything there was to know, gave up. The idea came back though. And this time around, I knew I needed to do something different, starting with prioritizing.
1. Gaining time to work on what is important
Is it possible for my coachees to develop their networking strategy themselves? Of course! All the information they need is accessible through books, videos, webinars. But how many hours would they have to spend searching the Internet and not focusing on what really matters, notably the networking?
Same for my online course creation. I am not aiming to become the Steven Spielberg of online courses, but I do want to be able to get it done. And rather today, not tomorrow!
This brings me to a second reason to sign up for coaching: getting to the end is no longer an option.
2. Getting an accountability partner in crime
Ah, procrastination…There might always be a better way of doing this. Or maybe I will just wait for whatever I am waiting for to happen tomorrow. We have all gone through it. But how was I going to get out of mine? I get called out. Every. Single. Day.
For some, this might be aggressive, but, for me, this is how I will get my course out there. I need someone to keep me on my toes. It is what I offer to my own clients. Knocking on the door to get them out and moving. But not without sending them off with a plan.
3. Starting with a change of plan, ending with a change of mind
With the time set at 30 days, I started off to realize my goal: create ONE course. Fast forward and one week in, I am already thinking about 154 other ones… Because that is what coaching brings as well: a new perspective, the idea that it is possible to do more.
It is also the aspect I love the most about my job. A radical “no” or a hesitant “maybe” suddenly becomes a lively “yes”! And for a second, I had forgotten how it feels to go through that “Aha!”-moment. 2020 has been difficult for all of us and being challenged by something different than a quarantine is enjoyable, much more than I thought.
Voila, here they are, my 3 reasons I hired a coach. What are yours?
